Mayor Michael Bloomberg is introducing a new type of wind- and solar-powered streetlight at the Brooklyn Navy Yard Thursday.

(AP) - The old Brooklyn Navy Yard is getting street lights powered by wind and sunlight.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is unveiling one of the 90 lights Thursday at the navy yard, which is undergoing a major expansion.

One new green building there has wind turbines. Plans are in the works for an eco-industrial facility that a photo-imaging company will use to manufacture environmentally friendly products.

Mr. Bloomberg says the environmental efforts at the navy yard will lead to more than 1,700 new permanent jobs with 40% in green manufacturing.
